Compassionate End of Life Care & Home Euthanasia for Companion Animals
Sometimes it is very clear that a beloved pet is ready to be euthanized. More often, end of life decisions are very emotional and complicated. I offer home visits to help owners make these difficult decisions and then say good-bye to their pet where they are most comfortable-in their own home.
Quality of Life Assessment- This assessment includes a nose to tail physical exam, review of medications and any medical notes or workup from your primary care veterinarian and a detailed discussion of your pet's level of comfort, engagement, and medical and environmental modifications that may improve your pet's remaining time.
Palliative Care- Palliative care includes interventions to improve an individual's lived experience (animal or human) without trying to cure their disease. I help owners manage conditions common to older dogs and cats including osteoarthritis, heart failure, renal failure, cancer and more. This may include medications, environmental modifications and other individualized interventions.
Home Euthanasia- When the time comes to euthanize, home euthanasia allows pets to pass and owners to grieve in the comfort and privacy of their own homes. When performing home euthanasia, my top priority is a peaceful pain-free experience. Home euthanasia also allows you to personalize the experience in whatever way is meaningful to you, such as allowing a pet to pass on in their favorite location, having space for family and close friends, or even toasting the departing pet with a drink.
