FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

Can you also vaccinate my puppy/kitten/horse?

No. I focus on being really good at just a few things. Your puppy/kitten/horse also deserves to be cared for by a veterinarian that is focused on their individual needs. Having a relationship with a brick and mortar small animal clinic or an equine vet helps ensure when your animals are sick, you have access to the resources, medicines and expertise you need for their care.

Can I wait until my pet gets really bad and then have you come right away?

No. There are practical and philosophical reasons this is not a good approach. I don't offer emergency euthanasia because I can't guarantee my availability at any time. I cover a large territory and am only one person, so there is a good chance you would have a long wait with a pet that might be in severe pain, respiratory distress or actively seizing. Additionally, many pets have quite poor quality of life before reaching the point of natural death, and often the most compassionate choice is to allow them to pass painlessly and peacefully before things get really bad.

How do you do this over and over? It must be so sad.

It is a sad fact that every story has an ending. I firmly believe that a quiet pain-free euthanasia at home surrounded by family is the greatest final gift a family can give their pet. While euthanizing animals and seeing families' pain is heavy emotional work, I do it because it is what I would choose for my animals and my family. The heavy mental and emotional nature of this work is also the reason that I do not offer weekend and evening euthanasia; my own mental health requires time away from this work to be able to continue to do it.
